BASIC APPROACHES TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EVENT TOURISM AS A TOOL FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE REGION

Abstract


Thearticle singles out and analyzes the mainapproaches to determine the impact of eventtourism in the region’s economy. Emphasisis made on the fact that the economic impactof the event tourism is an assessmentof changes in economic activity in the region,caused by tourists who visited the areato take part in a certain event. Large-scalenature of the event provides a significanttourist flow, which in turn requires corrertevaluation of the increase spending touriststo the region’s economy.The research results further to detailethe features of American and Western Europeantechniques. The American researchschool is characterized by the evaluation ofthe economic impact on the basis of modelingeconomic effect in the model «inputoutput», where the starting point is the touristspending arising in connection with theirneeds on visiting events. The economic effectin this case is defined as a purely economicchange in income host, which is formed as aresult of spending tourists. European modelsuggests to consider as key indicators of theeconomic impact the gross value added (includingper capita) and the level of employment.The European researchers complementthis number of economic indicators bythe data that reflect the social and culturaleffects, the impact on the tourism industry,as well as management indicators. In theformer Soviet the method of estimating thedirect economic impact of the event held inthe region is directly related to the calculationof Return on investment (ROI).It is defined the necessity of further researchusing accumulated experience in theorganization of events.
