Abstract


Activities of Lviv huntingand craft societies during the late XIXth –the early XXth century in the field of armsbranch in Lviv in terms of its production,trade and use have been highlighted. Theauthor makes the analysis of the Regulationsof Associations, existing normativeacts of Galicia and the Austro-HungarianEmpire. The methods and forms ofinfluence of society on the implementationof the statutory requirements have beenresearched.The article describes the history of theformation of gun-making workshops inLviv in the middle of XVIIIth century, theirinstitutional, organizational, material,financial and legislative status.It has been established that Lviv’shunting associations lobbied the productionof high-quality hunting weapons tothe city public authorities. That caused theneed to establish standards for weaponsand ammunition, approve a mechanism ofstate regulation of the issue of permits required for purchasing and using huntingfirearms weapons. Certain limitations inthe use of weapons in hunting were set toprevent further accidents. It was found outthat manufacturers of hunting firearms iny Lviv united into groups (corporations)organized for the purpose of defendingtheir own interests, resolving the socialconflicts between workers of the industryand society.The article reveals the role of theInternational Hunting Congress (Vienna,1910) and its influence on gun-making industryin production of weapons andammunition. It was found out that the lackof uniform standards for production ofweapons and ammunition caused accidentsduring their use. It has beenproposed to establish the uniform standardsfor ammunition and weapons toprevent accidents and damages. The decisionto ban some kind of weapons wasmade in order to protect a lot of animaland bird species.
