IMPLEMENTATION OF TOURIST FUNCTIONS IN POLISH RECOVERED TERRITORIES AFTER THE SECOND WORLD WAR

Abstract


Gorzów Wielkopolski is a city locatedin the Polish territories recovered after theSecond World War. The usage of both thecity and all these areas for tourism purposeswere treated only marginally until theend of the 1980s. The aim of the work is tocheck whether, after the political changes in1989, the city’s wealth concerning its touristfunctions was duly used. To achieve theresearch goals, the literature on tourismin urban centers, including Gorzów Wielkopolski,materials and information beingpart of the strategic documents of the CityHall, the Marshal’s Offi ce and the Ministryof Sport and Tourism were analyzed. Theanalysis also includes statements postedon the tourist websites and comments insurveys concerning the tourist attractivenessof the city. On the basis of the resultsof the carried out research it was possibleto formulate the conclusion that the city ofGorzów Wielkopolski is already offeringservices on the tourist market, but its wealthis not fully estimated and used for the needsof the tourism industry. Positive and verypositive opinions about values and touristattractions of Gorzów Wielkopolski appearmainly on national portals and are postedby people mostly unrelated to the city. Criticalstatements that doubt and undermine thetourist functionality of the city are posted onregional discussion forums by inhabitants ofthe city. One of the ways to change the existingsituation may be to start institutionalsupport for the industry and activities thatcan systematically promote the city.
