EUROPEAN CULTURE FESTIVAL AS A RENDEZVOUS OF BORDERLAND CULTURES (AFTER AN EXAMPLE OF UKRAINIAN UNIVERSITY BANDS).

Abstract


This paper attempts topresent fi ve seasons of the European CultureFestivals held between 2012 and 2016. Theywere organised by University of AppliedSciences in Gorzów Wielkopolski (since 1September 2016 Jacob of Paradies University)in cooperation with partner schools:the Uman National Horticulture Universityand the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian NationalUniversity at Ivano-Frankivsk.The Arts Institute of the Vasyl StefanykNational Transcarpathia University inIvano-Frankivsk was represented by bothgroups and soloists. The Dance Group «Dyvosvit» is a laureate of pan-Ukrainian andinternational competitions and festivals;the group trains professional choreographersfor community centres in WesternUkraine, while the Bandura Women PlayersQuartet «Gerdan» gives concerts at venuesorganised by the University, the town andprovince authorities. The band’s repertoirefeatures folk songs, instrumental music byknown Ukrainian and foreign composers.«Gerdan» took part in and was crownedwith top distinctions at international festivalsand competitions.The Student Culture and EducationCentre of the Human National HorticulturalUniversity at Uman was representedby a number of groups, e.g. «Khlibodary»,established in 1984. The group holds manyawards and took part in regional, pan-Ukrainian and international festivals. Itsrepertoire features Ukrainian folk songsand works by renown Ukrainian composers.Awarded top prizes at a number of festivalsand competitions was also «Nyvka» TradeUnion Folk Amateur Group. The repertoiresof the groups are varied; featuring elaborateword inventory of their songs and interestingmusical compositions.During the European Culture Festivalconcerts were held in different towns andlocalities.
